Derating and the SMx Audio System

Derating is the practice limiting electrical, thermal, and mechanical stresses on parts to levels below their specified ratings. If a system is expected to be Reliable, one of the major contributing factors must be a conservative approach. Proven design approaches are critical to system R/M success. The derating used on SMx is from Rome Air Development (RADC) System Reliability and Engineering Division Parts Derating Guidelines AFSC Pamphlet 800-27.
