Automatic Terminal Information Service (ATIS) Simulation One of the first uses for the Text to Speech I/O Device for V+ is an Automatic Terminal Information Service (ATIS) simulation used in simulation and training devices. ATIS broadcasts are used by airports to notify arriving and departing pilots of the current surface weather conditions and other information of importance to arriving and departing aircraft. Multiple Channels The Text-to-Speech I/O Device for V+ now includes the ability to produce multiple channels. This feature is useful for many reasons. For example, most aircraft are equipped with at least two COMM radios, which can tune two different ATIS frequencies. SimPhonics new audio systems can now simulate up to eight different streams of dynamic speech. The crew can now listen to two ATIS stations simultaneously, additional channels can be used for lesson plans, ground controlled approach, etc. See the V+ Design Example and text template used for a multi-channel ATIS simulation device. Note: Sample ATIS V+ design, configuration and text template files (Atis.des, Atis.vne, and Atis.txt) are downloaded with V+ and are located in your C:\Program Files\VPLus\Samples\Simple ATIS directory.
